Although hard to see, the cylindrical cage that makes up the body of this piece is filled with various animal bones that I've collected over the years. One is a beaver skull I found in my trash can out in my front yard that someone was generous enough to put there for me. Some of the bones weren't all quite freed from their meaty attachments, so the sculpture originally had an odd smell, at least at first. Mmmm…
The skull attached to the top of the work was in fact a separate project years before, which I made as a bookend for my bookshelf. But eventually I accumulated too many books and there was no more room for the skull on my shelves, thus I made some alternative use out of it for this sculpture.
